Design collab with our friend Annika Marek-Barta–artist, advocate, former foster youth, & adoptee. In honor of National Foster Care Month. Annika's heart behind the design:

"After surviving over a decade of abuse before entering the foster care system, my young life was already covered with the muck and slime of labels, many of which I placed upon myself. “Unwanted, used, broken, forgotten, a mistake.”

The actions that others inflicted upon me felt heavy, weighing me down as I struggled to believe in a better tomorrow. As I aged out of the foster care system, graduated college, took steps towards independence, started to heal through a loving community, and found belonging in a forever family – the labels started to peel off.

One after another, each identity I falsely identified with was taken off by the kindness of a Father who wanted me to see myself through His eyes. I traded brokenness for wholeness, hurt for healing, forgotten for adoption, unwanted for chosen, and a mistake to created for a purpose. Through Him, I have been made new.

I spent many years thinking I would never be able to live a “normal” life after all I had endured. It’s by the grace of God and the love of the people in my life that I can say that I’m living a fuller life than I ever thought possible. The old is gone and the new has come. Winter has passed and spring is blooming. I have been made new, and the most beautiful part is so can you!"
